Sport is highly valued at RCC and forms an integral part of the education of our students. We believe that sport teaches young people valuable life skills such as team work, making new friends and sustaining those friendships, physical health and general wellbeing, confidence, perseverance, the ability to start again after a failure or loss and finally, that only a strong work ethic will guarantee success on the field or in our everyday lives.
The key word we believe is balance. We believe that academic excellence is extremely important but we also believe that every student should partake in at least one sport during school hours or after. All RCC staff who supervise our various sports have the necessary coaching qualifications for their chosen sports. Our Games teacher Mr Timmons and Mr. Kavanagh coach our Gaelic Footballers, Ms Martin coaches athletics, Mr. Timmons coaches our soccer team and also our hurling. Our Rugby team is coached by Mr. Casserly. Our ladies footballers are coached by Mr Kelly and Ms Connelly. Our camogie team is coached by Ms Quinn.
Lunchtime
We have an extensive lunchtime sports programme available to each student in a safe and supervised environment therefore most of our students should be getting exercise and not hanging around.
After school Sports
We have been careful with the times and days we have selected for after school sports as many of our students also avail of after school study. The sports we have provided are GAA, soccer and athletics. The table below outlines in detail our lunchtime and after school sports programmes.
