8th November 2018
Our Cadet and Senior Volleyballers had their first competitive outing of 2018 before the midterm. They travelled to the Convent of Mercy Roscommon where the Cadets met the Convent’s two teams and our Seniors met the Convent and Claremorris. With three teams in both competitions, and the top two teams going through, we were hopeful that we would make it out of both our groups and look forward to another day out.
Our Cadets were all set for another year, after losing to the Convent in the All-Ireland Final last year, they were there to prove that they would be strong competition again this year and that they are hoping to go one step further than last year.
Up first, they faced the Convent Red Team. The girls showed from the outset that they were determined to set their mark and that they did. The girls displayed their excellent team work and communication skills as they set one another up for shots and encouraged each other throughout the games. In the end, they won both games comfortably on a score line of 25-13, 25-14.
As the top two teams would be going through, this meant that our ladies would have another day out regardless of the result in their final game. Even with knowing this, it did not distract our girls, they had a job to do and wanted to finish as they had started. When they played the Convent Blue Team, they played with the same determination, skill and grit as they had against the first Convent team and thankfully they also came out victorious, 25-14, 25-17. The girls showed how much they have improved and also showed how focused they are for the year ahead. For our girls there is just one thing on their mind - The All-Ireland Final - and while it will take a lot of commitment and hard work to get there, there is no doubt that they have the ability to go all the way.
On the same day, our Senior Ladies were also competing. This was their second outing of the year as they had previously played in the participation round last month. After winning all games during the participation round, the girls had high hopes to keep their winning streak going. The girls played Claremorris first, a school renowned for their volleyball success. The girls knew it would be a tough battle but that did not deter them. Continuing on from their great performance during their first excursion this year, the girls executed each shot perfectly and ensured only the best option was taken. This led to great success as they bet Claremorris 25-13, 25-17.
The girls then found themselves in the same position as the Cadet Ladies, they knew they were through to the next round but could they retain their 100% record of this season? The girls kept calm and composed and skilfully bet the Convent 25-15, 25-14, which meant they also topped their group on the day.
The very best of luck to both teams who will be out again in the next round over the coming weeks.
