First year history students took a journey through time this week as they travelled to Clonmacnoise to gain first-hand experience of the Early Christian Monastic Site. This excursion formed a part of their study of Early Christian Ireland.
Upon arrival, the group of budding historians were treated to an audio visual presentation about the story of Clonmacnoise, which was founded by Saint Ciarán. Students were delighted to learn that St. Ciarán himself studied in Roscommon. Afterwards, students were enthralled by the old stone High Cross of the Scriptures. The class then ventured into the old monastic site as they took in sights of the old cathedral and round towers.
The day was a wonderful experience for all, as history left the pages of the text book and became a reality. The history class looks forward to many more excursions of the like in the future.
