The Junior Girls Rugby team took part in the first Rugby Sevens Blitz of the year ran by Connacht rugby in Tuam last Tuesday. The blitz consisted of two groups of four teams. Roscommon Community College competed in a group against Scoil Bhride Mercy Tuam, Elphin CC and Sacred Heart Westport.

For many members of our Roscommon Community College team participating in rugby is a new endeavour. Despite this, RCC got off to a great start in the first game against Elphin Community College winning 5 tries to 2. Our second game was against Scoil Bhride Mercy, Tuam, who had a number experienced players in their ranks. This game was extremely enjoyable to watch and both teams played some great rugby with RCC running out as eventual winners with a score of 7 - 2.

The final game of the blitz was between RCC and Sacred Heart, Westport. This table topping clash would have the winners receive ten valuable points for the for the next round. RCC raced out of the blocks and got an early three try lead in the first half before Sacred Heart fought back with a try of their own leaving it 3-1 at half time. The bench played its part in the second half and RCC tagged on a few more tries to win convincingly 7-2 and leave RCC as the early pace setters in the Junior Girls Rugby League.
