Our u/14 Ladies Football team had their first outing last week where they faced Coláiste Chiaráin, which is the newly amalgamated school of Summerhill and St. Aloysius College.
Our girls started off excellently with some great support play leading to an opening goal by Kirstin Cronin. More early goals from Ashling Treacy and Carragh Kennedy propelled the team and gave them the confidence to play some of the best football that has ever been seen by this team. It was an extremely successful day, one that showed great skill, teamwork and fitness. As the game progressed, RCC never allowed Coláiste Chiaráin the opportunity to get back into the game and on the day, RCC were the deserving winners, beating the Athlone team comprehensively.
A special mention must be given to our first year girls who made their football debut for Roscommon Community College; Amy Gallagher, Jade Cunningham, Hannah Burke, Kateyln Lynch, Caoimhe Clarke, Siafra Finneran and Erika Horvathova. All players made a big impact on the field and it is great to see their talent enhancing our teams here at RCC.
Also, congratulations to Sinéad Hickey who was chosen as the Referee’s Player of the Match for her brilliant performance on the day. Sinead was heavily involved in most of the play throughout the game, encouraging her fellow players and added 3 points to the scoreline.
Very well done to all players and the best of luck in their next game which will be against Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, Roscommon.
