RCC Vs Sacred Heart Westport
An astonishing performance was witnessed today from our RCC Senior Ladies’ Camogie team who put up a superb battle in their game against Sacred Heart Westport. It was an extremely competitive game with both teams gunning for victory in order to gain their spot in the semi-final next week.
Starting from midfield Mairéad Lohan and Katie Cronin winning the throw in popped it into Kirstin Cronin who started the game off with an outstanding point. The first half saw the girls fight very hard with a strong defensive display from the McDermott sisters, Shauna and Hollie, and Andrea Fallon. To add to this there were some super scores from Katie Cronin, Siafra Finneran and Kirstin Cronin. The RCC ladies stormed into an early lead, racking up score after score with no response from Westport.
With the play settling down Westport began to find their rhythm adding some scores to their tally. This did not deter our girls and with a free from Siafra Finneran, hitting it up and behind the goalie into the back of the net, they kept their lead. As Westport were eager for a goal the determination from our defence kept them out. Once the defence had cleared the ball safely Andrea Fallon found herself driving up the pitch with a purpose. A wonderful point by Kirstin Cronin finished off the attacking move leaving the half time score to 2-1 to 4 points.
With the second half underway Westport came out strong hitting a quick goal from play levelling the score board, however, the RCC girls responded quickly with Kirstin Cronin scoring a fantastic goal. Throughout the game the RCC girls pushed on by adding a few more points and goals to extend their lead. Overall, an outstanding performance from the girls who are now through to the Connacht Semi-Final next week finishing the match on a score line of 5-3 to 2-7. We wish them the very best of luck .
