Our Junior Irish debating team recently took part in the second round of the Gael Linn Debating Competition in Athlone Community College, following their success in the previous round of the competition. This competition promotes the Irish language by giving students the opportunity to debate against other schools through the medium of Irish.

Our Junior Irish debating team, which consisted of four 2nd year students: Tom Óg Reddington, Sophie Cox, Aideen Pearce and Rebecca Trimble battled out against Our Lady’s Bower Secondary School, Mercy Secondary School Ballymahon and Athlone Community College in what was an exciting, high standard debate, exploring the motion if Home Economics should be made a compulsory subject for Junior Cycle students.

Well done to all participants in the Junior category, who all performed to an excellent standard. Congratulations to Our Lady’s Bower Secondary school and Athlone Community College who will progress onto the next round of the competition.
