RCC 4-12
CCM Spiddal 3-16
Our RCC Senior Boys’ Hurling team put up a great battle against CCM Spiddle on Monday last. With Liam Naughton and Brian Mannion winning the throw in at midfield RCC were off to a strong start quickly delivering a perfect point from Tommy Morris. Throughout the first half the boys fought very hard with Aaron Flaherty and Tommy Morris displaying rock solid performances in the back line. Whilst CCM Spiddle took control of large parts of the first half goals from both Tommy and Conor Morris kept RCC in touch. Liam Naughton and Brian Mannion tagged on some great points to leave RCC trailing by 5 points at the break.
CCM Spiddle came out strongly in the second half and pounced for an early goal to extend their half-time lead. RCC were up against it at this stage, but they never gave up. A cracker of a goal from Brian Mannion narrowed the gap to 4 points with time ticking away. Minute by minute, second by second, RCC whittled the lead down to 2 points deep in injury time and with the last play of the game, Tommy Morris saw his last-ditch effort rise just above the crossbar to leave 1 point between the sides. It was a crushing defeat for RCC who were magnificent throughout. On Wednesday next the boys will play Woodford in an away game with a win putting them through to the Connacht Semi Final. Best of luck to all involved.
