RCC’s 1st and 2nd year hurlers took part in a blitz recently organised by Connacht GAA in the Centre of Excellence. Our lads had plenty of game time playing against four other schools.

Our first match against HRC Mountbellew was a close game in the early stages with Jack Lally in defence and Dan Monaghan in goals keeping HRC at bay. As the game progressed RCC started to take their chances and ran out deserving winners.

In Game 2 we faced St Gerald’s Castlebar in another very competitive game. Some excellent scores from Rory Connolly and Luke Hayes saw RCC take the win.

In game 3 we were up against Garbally Ballinasloe. This was an excellent game of hurling by both sides with plenty of skill and team play on display. Luke Hayes and Thomas Hanley caused lots of problems up front with some good link play. In a close finish Garbally scored some crucial points to pull clear.

In the final game we played Rice College Westport. Another close game meant our defence had to be strong throughout with Bobby Regan and Aaron Connelly delivering good ball into the forwards. MJ O’ Connor got a well taken goal and Cormac Naughton finished with some excellent points to secure a well-deserved win for RCC.

Well done to all players who represented the school on their first day out as a group this year.
