The eager RCC Junior Ladies Football team put up a superb battle in their first game against Boyle. Shauna McDermott kicked off the game by scoring an outstanding point in the opening minutes. In the first half, the girls fought very hard, with great defence by Aishling king, Zara Doyle and Hollie McDermott and outstanding scores from Grace Dowling and Katelyn Shally. The RCC ladies kept possession in the first half thanks to Alanna Campbell and Katelyn Shally winning some great breaks around the middle of the field. The great athleticism of the girls allowed the ball to be carried forward resulting in some beautifully worked scores. At half time RCC had a well-deserved 3 point lead. This was thanks to an excellent save by Meabh Carley in goal just before half time whistle.
Boyle came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half kicking a point within 30 seconds of the restart. The RCC ladies hit back in style with a determined goal from Shauna Mcdermott in the left-hand corner. This was a well worked team goal for the girls which had been coming for a long time in the game. As the second half continued, Boyle had more in the engine kicking some excellent scores. Despite the great efforts from the girls in RCC, unfortunately it just wasn’t their day. It was a very strong performance from our girls for their first game of the year. Next up for this Junior team is Castlerea after the midterm break. Well done to all the girls on a very competitive game.
