Roscommon Community College claimed the Midlands Schools 2nd Year Basketball title with
an impressive 45–23 victory over St. Mary’s Edenderry. RCC set the tone early with relentless
defence and sharp scoring from Ben McHugh McRory and Tommy Hayes, racing into a 17–2
lead by the end of the first quarter. Their intensity and organisation left Edenderry struggling to
settle into the game.
The second quarter saw Marek Janicki take centre stage, hitting 10 points to further extend
RCC’s advantage. By half-time, RCC had built a commanding 27–8 lead, reflecting their
dominance on both ends of the court. While St. Mary’s threatened a response in the third quarter,
RCC remained composed, with key scores from Marek, Tommy and Ben maintaining control. A
standout moment came from Joao Gomes, whose excellent rebound and lay-up pushed the score
to 41–15 heading into the final quarter.
With the result firmly in their grasp, RCC focused on disciplined defence in the closing stages to
see out the game and secure a historic 45–23 win. This victory marks the school’s first piece of
basketball silverware, a well-deserved title, having narrowly missed out in last year’s 1st Year
