Well known former Clare hurler, intercountry manager and now TV personality, Davy Fitzgearld paid a visit to our school last Friday. Our school was very lucky to win the ‘win a training session with Davy Fitzgearld’ competition run by Londis. There was tremendous excitement amongst our students and staff in anticipation of Davy’s visit. 30 lucky students were chosen at random. For a full 90 minutes Davy put our students through their paces in a combination of hurling skills and training from ‘Ireland’s Fittest Family’. By the end of the session our students were exhausted but joyful and appreciative of the experience of training with Ireland’s best hurling coach. Davy then spoke to our students on topics like physical fitness and wellbeing. For the next 30 minutes all the players, staff, students and local members of the community got autographs, hurleys and jerseys signed, selfies and group photos. An exhausted Davy then sat in our staffroom for tea, sandwiches and chat. All agreed that Davy’s visit was an incredible day for our school. Our students were initially in awe but Davy’s friendly and approachable manner soon had everyone at ease. Our school community wishes to thank Davy for visiting our school and bringing such joy and excitement. Finally, we are very grateful to Londis and especially Timothy’s Londis who made this fantastic day possible. Thanks to Mr Timmons, Ms Fleming and Ms Conway for all their help and organisation with the event. Only for their time and effort put in this would not have been as successful an event as it turned out.
