RCC 1-07 Summerhill 3-05

Our u15 hurlers began our championship in Pairc RCC against Summerhill of Sligo. In howling wind and monsoon like conditions our boys battled manfully from beginning to end. We were first on the score board with a Jack Lally goal after five minutes. Summerhill’s danger men continued to cause problems for our defence and despite playing against the wind were two points up after fifteen minutes, 1-01 to 1-03. Jack continued to cause problems for the Summerhill defence, and he drew two frees which Tom Hanley put over the bar. Dan Monaghan and Mark Naughton were constant thorns in the Summerhill defence but in the windy conditions, our forwards accuracy wasn’t there. This would prove ominous when playing against the win in the second half.

Summerhill began to use the wind to their advantage and had two goals scored by 45 minutes, 3-03 to 1-03. It would have been worse were it not for the brave goalkeeping of Ryan Halligan. His performance seemed to inspire his teammates and RCC tapped on four points without reply, two frees form Tom Hanley and a point apiece for Luke Hayes and Senan O Shaughnessy. With five to go Summerhill led by just two. However, they managed to see out the game and claim victory.
