RCC vs Castlerea
During the first half of the game RCC played into a very strong breeze and even though they created plenty of chances they unfortunately could not convert them. Castlerea took advantage of the elements in their favour scoring three goals in the opening half to take a commanding lead.
With the wind at their backs for the second half, RCC had a quick start where Grace Dowling won the throw-in and swiftly passed the ball on to Shauna McDermott who scored RCC’s first point of the game. RCC made two substitutions half-way through the second half where Abbie Connelly and Ellen Egan came on giving the team new energy.
In the final minutes of the match, RCC won plenty of frees within shooting range which were excellently converted by Grace Dowling. Alanna Campbell won two frees near the goal and passed both off and received them again to score 1-1. Alanna Campbell continued her scoring streak with another point over the bar. Shauna McDermott followed with another displaying RCC’s determination not to give up . Despite showing a lot of fight and skill in the second half, the deficit Castlerea built up at half time was too great to make up.
Hard luck to the girls who fought right to the end and never gave up in tough playing conditions. The girls play their final round game against Elphin Community College on Monday the 21st of November. Best of luck girls!
