RCC celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 10th to 14th with a range of exciting activities designed to promote the Irish language and culture in our school.
Among the highlights, 5th and 6th-year students enjoyed a comedy performance by High Rock Productions, Caith Amach É, which aimed to help them prepare for their upcoming Irish oral exams. As the Senior Cycle Irish oral exam is worth 40% of their final grade, this event provided valuable insights ahead of the State orals in just a few weeks.
Transition Year students showcased their dancing skills with a lively Céilí in the GP room, while 3rd and 5th-year students tested their knowledge of Irish phrases and proverbs in a competitive game of Biongó. First-year students took a break to watch the SpongeBob movie, dubbed in Irish, this is the first film to feature an Irish translation on Netflix.
To further celebrate our rich cultural heritage, the Trad and Folk Society treated us to a fantastic performance of polkas, jigs and reels during lunchtime in the GP room.
The festivities concluded on Friday with a special tea party, ‘Tae agus Plé,’ hosted for second-year students ahead of their Crannchur Ollmhór on Friday afternoon in aid of the Join Our Boys charity.
It was a fantastic week of celebrating our language, culture, and heritage. As the saying goes, “Beatha teanga í a labhairt.” Our next Irish-language event will be the annual TY Gaeltacht trip, where students will immerse themselves in saol na Gaeltachta in Coláiste UISCE in April!
