Recently our U15 boys’ soccer team played the West Leinster Division 3 final against Columba College in Clara. Columba made a strong start to the game. Just six minutes after kick-off, they were awarded a penalty and successfully converted it, taking an early 1–0 lead. In the second half, RCC showed determination and resilience. The pressure continued and with only 8 minutes remaining RCC scored once more, equalising the match at 3–3 when Harry McDermott scored another long-range screamer from outside the box into the top left-hand corner of the net. With the score level at full time, the game went into extra time. With no goals scored during extra time, the match was decided by a dreaded penalty shootout. Unfortunately, RCC lost the penalty shootout 5-4 to Columba College. Overall, it was an exciting and competitive match, with both teams showing great effort and determination throughout. The team will be proud of their dramatic comeback in the second half to force extra time and will pick themselves up for next year and hope to go one step further.
