21st October 2022

On Thursday last our Senior Ladies Football team had their first game of the year against Castlerea Community School.

RCC started off very strong with great scores from Heather O’Sullivan, Alanna Campbell and Siafra Finneran. Great teamwork was shown by the girls working the ball out from full back Aishling king to Kirstin Cronin in midfield, setting the forwards up for some excellent scores. The work rate of our two wing forwards, Andrea Fallon and Lyndsey Gibbons was second to none allowing a smooth transition from the back line to the forward line. It was a great display of very skilful football which was noted by the referee at the end of the game.

In the second half, Castlerea came out all guns blazing with nothing to lose. Castlerea had already won their first game against Elphin and were going for two in a row. Castlerea got some excellent scores in the second half and put the match to the RCC girls. However, the work rate and determination of the RCC girls allowed them to push on and get their season off to a wining start.

Aishling King, Katie Cronin and Hollie Mc Dermott displayed excellent tackling skills in the back line throughout the game. Up front Katelyn Lynch, Siafra Finneran and Andrea Fallon got some excellent scores.

The final score finished RCC 5:15 Castlerea 5:05. A special mention must go to Hannah Kerr who played her first game for the school at corner forward. Well done Hannah. The referee’s player of the match went to Heather O’Sullivan at centre forward who had some outstanding scores in the game.

The senior ladies play their next group game next Tuesday at home to Elphin. We wish the girls the very best of luck. Well done to girls involved.
