Connacht Senior Boys Football Championship

RCC senior boys football team began their Connacht campaign with a hard-fought win against St. Joseph’s College Foxford in Enfield last Friday week. In the first half, RCC started brighter with an early score by Anthony Cox, closely followed with a brace of points from full forward Luke Shally. RCC’s defense, marshalled by the returning Conor Morris, were miserly in the first half creating endless turnovers leading to a 6-point lead with the first half coming to a close.
RCC missed a few glorious chances to open an even healthier lead but still went in at half time with 6 points to 1 lead. Jack Hayes began the scoring in the second half with an excellent individual score but after this, St Joseph’s had their purple patch. They scored a very quick goal and a point to narrow the deficit to 2 points. At this point, captain Liam Naughton really stepped up. He scored a quickfire 1-2 to give RCC a bit of breathing space and a couple more Shally efforts, followed by a late Noah Farrell goal, meant RCC got off to a winning start in their quest for Connacht success.
They will play Castlerea in their final group to determine if they will qualify for the knockout stages.
