Home Economics

Home Economics at RCC is a subject which integrates theory with practice, that is concerned with the way individuals and families manage their resources to meet their physical, emotional, intellectual, social and economic needs. All first year students complete a taster in Home Economics for a number of weeks and then may opt to study it to Junior Cycle (Common level) before progressing to Leaving Certificate (Higher and Ordinary level). Throughout the course students develop practical ability through direct experiences.

In a time of rapid social change, the study of Home Economics is very relevant to the present and future social, creative and management needs for living that are so fundamental in preparing every young person for the challenges and opportunities which they will meet in the course of their lives. Home Economics provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for living as individuals and as members of a family.
