IMBV (Identity, Multi-belief and Values Education)

Identity, Multi-Belief and Values Education (IMBV Education) is a curricular expression of Education and Training Board (ETB) ethos and core values and focuses on the holistic development of the student in an ETB school. The new specification for IMBV Education sets out expectations for teaching, learning and assessment for the first, second and third years in post-primary school.

ETB Core Values are:

  • Excellence in Education
  • Care
  • Equality
  • Community and Respect

The IMBV Education specification focuses on developing knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and values to enable young people to connect with their lives, their ETB school experience, and the wider community. It encourages students to be active local and global citizens and to develop respect and an appreciation for diversity in a shared learning environment.

The course is built around three interconnecting strands that are explored through critical questioning, respectful dialogue and reflection:

    • Exploring Our Values
    • Fostering Identity and Belonging
    • Appreciating Diversity of Religions and Beliefs.
