Wellbeing

Roscommon Community College places the wellbeing of its staff and students at the very core of it values.

“Wellbeing is present when a person realises their potential, is resilient in dealing with the normal stresses of their life, takes care of their physical wellbeing and has a sense of purpose, connection and belonging to a wider community. It is a fluid way of being and needs nurturing throughout life”

The World Health Organisation (2001)

A whole school approach to wellbeing is advocated in Roscommon Community College and the Continuum Support Model is used to provide support to students.  This model offers a flexible framework within which schools can address all educational needs, including wellbeing needs. Student support and wellbeing is promoted and fostered in several ways:

  • Tutor system whereby students meet their tutors every morning, Monday – Thursday
  • Year Head Team, with Academic Monitors
  • Career Guidance Team
  • Student Support Team
  • School Self-Evaluation, as per circular 56/2022
  • Relationships with Parents
  • Links with External Agencies
  • Wellbeing Curriculum
  • Extra-Curricular Activities
  • One Good School Initiative
  • Our Mission and Ethos

Whole school wellbeing is nurtured under four key areas, and we at Roscommon Community College, constantly strive to promote the indicators for success under each one:

(DES 2018, p.35)

The 6 wellbeing indicators are promoted throughout the school, through the curriculum, cross curricular and in extracurricular activities:
