Roscommon Community College is aiming for the 9th Green School Flag, the theme of which is Global Citizenship with an emphasis on travel. Our Green Schools Committee organised various events to highlight climate change during climate action week which took place from the 10th to 16th October 2022. Students participated in numerous activities, for example, poster, slogan, song, essay, poetry, photography and video competitions. Activities also included up cycling pre-loved materials to create fashionable items of clothing. Learning for Life students constructed and painted flower boxes to enhance the school environment. P. E classes went on well-being walks in Mote Park. All teachers immersed their pupils in various environmental issues during lessons throughout the week. Our farm technician, John Mooney, demonstrated the way he measures rainfall on the school grounds. Marina from ‘Fresh Today’ supplied a vegetarian option for lunch in the canteen and will continue to do so on a daily basis. The whole school community contributed, and positive learning outcomes were achieved.
