On Friday last, the first-year students at Roscommon Community College took a well-deserved break from their busy schedules to enjoy a delightful picnic in the park. The event was organised as part of the school’s efforts to support new students and build friendships during their transition to secondary school life.

Accompanied by their Transition Year (TY) mentors and Class tutors, the first-year students spent the afternoon basking in the warm sunshine, playing football, hurling, and enjoying one another’s company. The picnic not only offered a fun-filled outdoor experience but also provided an opportunity for the students to get plenty of exercise while bonding with their peers and mentors.

The event highlighted how well the new students have settled into their new school environment, with many already forging friendships and embracing the school’s community spirit. “The picnic was a fantastic opportunity for students to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and connect with their classmates and mentors,” said the principal. “It’s important for us to ensure that our first-year students feel welcome and supported as they adjust to secondary school life, and this event allowed them to do just that in a fun and engaging way.”

As the students return to their academic routines, the success of the picnic signals a positive start to their journey at Roscommon Community College, setting the tone for a fulfilling and well-rounded school experience.
