Congratulations to the RCC senior ladies football team who had a great win against Carrigallen Vocational School Thursday 21st November. This game was a rematch of last year’s Connacht
Quarter Final where Carrigallen came out on top. However, RCC ladies made sure that history would not be repeated on this occasion!
RCC showed intent right from the outset and put down a marker when Alice Fetherston fired the ball into the net within the opening five minutes. This was the score that gave the team belief and set the pace of the game. RCC and Carrigallen were two very well-matched teams with both teams showing some excellent skill and execution of scores. The team play that was displayed by
RCC was superb and a pleasure to watch. Zoey King, Eabhanna Sheridan, Emily Carely and Shauna McDermott interlinked the play with efficiency in the forward line which made it very hard for Carrigallen’s backs to defend. Team play was the centre of every move amongst the players. At half time RCC led by six points but the game was far from over. Carrigallen came out the stronger team at the start of the second half with a goal within the first two minutes. RCC knew they needed to dig deep to keep their lead and that’s exactly what they did. Aishling King, Hollie Mc Dermott, Sophie Cox and Orla Norris lead from the back line in
the second half, setting up Megan Flynn and Grace Dowling for some lovely scores. The girls gave everything they had and were determined to win. The game finished RCC 4:06 to Carrigallen 2:07. It was one of the girls’ best displays of football, who now qualify for the Connacht semi-final due to be played by 6th December. This is the first time that the senior girls’ team have reached a semi-final. RCC is immensely proud of you. Well done girls!
