Aims

The Art and Design curriculum in Transition Year is designed to develop both practical and creative thinking skills which complement the senior cycle Art and Design Syllabus.

The programme in our school focuses on three distinct areas:

Junk Kouture

A recycled fashion competition Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture is a national contest which encourages young designers in second level education to create striking couture designs and impressive works of wearable art from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin.

Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture aims to inspire and ignite passion in these teenagers while at the same time subtly educating them about the importance of recycling and reusing waste.

Painting and Printmaking

  • Self-Portraiture and Lino Printing.
  • Students develop skills in photography, digital manipulation, Drawing, Painting and Lino Printing.

Cross-Circular Mural Project.

Students Develop and create a mural inspired by a topic studied in another Subject. This project develops team working, interior design and painting skills alongside a deep and lasting understanding of another subject eg. Poetry or Geography.
